About the Practice:
- We at Locum Health are currently collaborating with a wonderful practice located in Stoke Poges, looking for a qualified candidate to fill the role of Locum Practice Nurse. Here are the details:
- Responsibilities:
- Routine post op medications and supplements are being taken as prescribed and advised by the team and that they have contacted their GP for repeat prescription (PPI twice daily for 3 months then OD for 9 months)
- Contact bariatric department/consult with their GP if any symptoms of heart burn and acid reflux and to call 111 or attend A&E any urgent or serious events.
- Laparoscopic wounds are kept clean and dry (Practice nurse appointment)
- Making sure they know what to do (speak with GP/ call 111 or attend A&) in case there are signs of infections.
- Giving basic dietary advise and encouraging patients to aim for minimum 60g of protein /day as per dietitian’s advice.
- Following the right diet stages as per booklet (see attached) (Gastric bypass =2 weeks of liquid, 2 weeks of pureed, 2 weeks of soft then solids. Sleeve = 3 weeks of liquid, 2 weeks of pureed, 2 weeks of soft then solids. Taking lactulose 10 mls twice a day
- Routine follow up with the bariatric team are in place and patients are aware of this (if they are not aware, please give details)
- Clinic letter gets sent out only following the second post op clinic, which takes place after 2-3 weeks. The one-week post op telephone review is just to be documented on EPR documentation as Bariatric CNS progress note.
- Patients are then checked in and out after each clinic, attended. For non-attendance, mark are DNA and request for them to be rebooked into next available. Do not discharge as this will trigger all future appointments to cancelled, leading to post op patients being lost to follow.
- Please use the post op templet questions as a guide so that vital questions are not left unasked.
- Update post op bariatric surgery form by adding the patient’s current, reported weight (found under the form browser) to allow us to keep track of patient’s weigh loss journey.
- Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with a valid [State] nursing license.
- Proven experience as a Practice Nurse or in a similar clinical setting.
- Strong clinical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Knowledge of current healthcare trends and best practices.
